Additional Bill Filters

What this helps you do: Further narrow bill reports using sponsor, committee, and party-based filters when you need more precision.

Before you start

You must be creating or editing a Bill report.

How it works

Additional bill filters let you refine results based on who introduced a bill or where it’s being considered.

These filters are optional and are usually layered after core filters like groups, priority, or date ranges.

Sponsor party

The Sponsor party filter limits bills based on the political party of the primary sponsor.

Common use cases

  • Monitoring bills introduced by a specific party

  • Understanding partisan patterns across sessions

  • Tailoring reports for stakeholders who track party-driven proposals

Specific sponsors and co-sponsors

This filter allows you to include bills sponsored or co-sponsored by specific legislators.

Use this when you want to:

  • Track bills introduced by key legislators

  • Monitor activity from leadership or committee chairs

  • Follow sponsor-driven initiatives

Committees

The Committees filter limits bills based on committee assignment.

Typical uses

  • Tracking bills currently in a specific committee

  • Monitoring committee workloads

  • Preparing committee-specific reports

How these filters are best used

Additional filters are most effective when used sparingly.

For example:

  • Groups: Client A – Priority

  • Committee: Judiciary

  • Latest action date: Last 7 days

Results in:

Client A’s priority bills with recent movement in Judiciary

Stacking too many of these filters at once can unintentionally hide relevant bills.

Tips

  • Start with groups and date filters before adding sponsor or committee filters.

  • Use sponsor filters for targeted monitoring—not broad tracking.

  • If a report looks empty, remove sponsor-level filters first.

Common questions

Why don’t I see all bills from a committee?
The filter only includes bills currently assigned to that committee.

Do co-sponsors count?
Yes, when filtering by sponsors and co-sponsors.

Can I combine party and sponsor filters?
Yes—but doing so can narrow results significantly.
