Bill Date Filters Explained
What this helps you do: Find bills based on when something happened, such as recent movement or activity during a specific time window.
Before you start
You must be creating or editing a Bill report.
How it works
Bill date filters look at bill activity dates, not session years.
These filters answer questions like:
What moved recently?
What changed during a specific time period?
Which bills had any action last week?
Latest action date
The Latest action date filter includes bills that had any action within a recent window.
Common examples
Bills with activity in the last 7 days
Bills with activity in the last 14 days
Bills with activity in the last 30 days
This is one of the most common filters for weekly status reports.
Action date range
The Action date range filter includes bills that had activity between two specific dates.
Example use cases
Bills with activity between January 1 and January 30
Movement during a special session
End-of-session recap reports
How date filters interact with other filters
Date filters are applied after other bill filters.
For example:
Groups: Client A – Priority
Progress: Passed first chamber
Latest action date: Last 7 days
Results in:
Priority bills for Client A that passed a chamber in the last week
If a bill meets all filters but had no action in the selected window, it won’t appear.
When to use date filters vs session years
Date filters answer when, session years answer which session.
Tips
Pair Latest action date with Dynamic reports for rolling weekly updates.
If a report looks empty, widen the date window before removing the filter.
Use date filters instead of session years when tracking movement over time.
Common questions
Why didn’t a bill appear even though it’s active?
It may not have had any action within the selected date window.
Does filing count as an action?
Yes. Filing and other recorded steps count as bill actions.
Can I use date filters in multi-state reports?
Yes. Date filters behave consistently across states.
