How to Filter Bills by Date

What This Does

Use date filters to narrow your bill search to specific legislative sessions or time ranges based on when a bill's status changed or when its last action occurred.

When You’d Use This

  • You need to find all bills introduced during the 2024 legislative session.
  • You want to see a list of bills that had any legislative action within the last week.
  • You are looking for bills that passed the first chamber between March 1 and March 15.

How To Do It

There are three ways to filter bills by date: by session year, by the date of a specific legislative progress status, or by the date of the bill's most recent action.

Filter by Session Year

Use this to find bills from one or more legislative sessions.

  1. In the filter panel, expand the Bills section.
  2. Click the Session years field.
  3. Select the checkbox next to each year you want to include in your search.

Filter by Legislative Progress Date

Use this to find bills that reached a specific status within a certain timeframe.

  1. In the filter panel, expand the Bills section.
  2. Under Legislative Progress, select one or more statuses (e.g., Introduced, Enacted).
  3. Click the Add date filter button that appears below your selection.
  4. Choose between Dynamic or Specific dates.
    • For Dynamic, select a predefined range from the dropdown (e.g., This week, Last month).
    • For Specific dates, click the date field to open a calendar and select a start and end date.

Filter by Latest Action Date

Use this to find bills that had any legislative activity within a certain timeframe.

  1. In the filter panel, expand the Bills section.
  2. Locate the Latest Action by Date filter.
  3. Choose between Dynamic or Specific dates.
    • For Dynamic, select a predefined range from the dropdown (e.g., This week, Last month).
    • For Specific dates, click the date field to open a calendar and select a start and end date.

What Happens Next

The list of bills will update to display only the bills that match your specified date criteria.

Pro Tips

  • Combine date filters with other filters, such as Keywords or Sponsors, to further refine your search results.
  • Use the Latest Action by Date filter for a broad search of recent activity. Use the Legislative Progress date filter when you need to find bills that reached a specific milestone within a set timeframe.
