Comparing Bills Across Legislative Sessions
Feature Overview
What This Is
Identify and view related versions of a bill, such as those introduced in different legislative sessions or chambers.
Why It Matters
Understand how a bill evolves over time by seeing its legislative history and changes across sessions. This helps you track the trajectory of key policies without manually searching for prior versions.
Key Components
- Companion Bill Linking: The system automatically identifies and links related bills, known as companion bills.
- Aggregated Bill View: When viewing a bill that has a companion, information for both bills is displayed together on the bill page. This includes:
- Bill numbers for both versions.
- Primary sponsors for each chamber.
- The last legislative action for each bill.
- Separate legislative progress trackers for each chamber.
- Companion Bill Badge: Bill cards display a badge to indicate that a companion bill exists, allowing you to track it directly.
