How Do I Use 360 Views to Analyze a Policy Issue Across States?

Analyze a Policy Issue Across States with 360 Views

We know it can be challenging to get a complete picture of a policy issue when it spans multiple states. The 360 View is designed to give you a comprehensive, at-a-glance dashboard that brings together bills, news, legislative activity, and more, all centered around the topic you care about.

Getting Started: Create Your 360 View

To begin your analysis, you'll first create a 360 View by providing a topic or question, also known as a prompt.

  1. Navigate to the 360 Views page.
  2. In the search bar, type a phrase or question about the policy issue you want to analyze. For example, consumer data privacy or Show me recent proposals related to renewable energy permitting.
  3. If you need inspiration, you can select one of the provided example prompts.
  4. Click Generate 360 View.

A new dashboard will be created, pulling in relevant information from across the states based on your prompt.

Understanding Your Dashboard

Your 360 View is an interactive dashboard made up of several modules. You can rearrange these modules by dragging, dropping, and resizing them to fit your needs.

Here are the modules you'll find in your view:

  • AI Summary: An AI-generated overview of the key findings related to your topic.
  • Recommended Bills: A list of relevant bills from various states.
  • Hearings: A collection of legislative hearings related to the policy issue.
  • News: Recent news articles that cover your topic.
  • Activity Heat Map: An interactive map of the United States showing policy activity levels.
  • Active Legislators: A list of key lawmakers involved in the issue.
  • Schedule: A view of upcoming schedules and events.
  • Legislator Notes: There is no information in the codebase about this.

Interacting with Your 360 View

Once your dashboard is generated, you can refine the data and dive deeper into specific areas.

Filter Your Results

At the top of the page, you'll find powerful filters to narrow your focus:

  • States Filter: Click the States dropdown to select specific states for your analysis. You can choose one, several, or all states.
  • Date Filter: Use the date selector to focus on a specific time frame for all the information on your dashboard.

Explore the Activity Heat Map

The Activity Heat Map gives you a visual sense of where the action is happening.

  • Activity View: States are color-coded based on the volume of relevant bills, hearings, and news. Darker shades indicate higher levels of activity.
  • Sentiment View: Switch to the Sentiment tab to see an analysis of the tone of the content. You can view the average sentiment over time and see counts of positive, negative, and neutral items.
  • Drill Down into States: Click on any state on the map to open a sidebar. This sidebar lists the specific bills, hearings, and news articles for that state, with links to view each item in detail.

Update Your Analysis with New Prompts

Your analysis can evolve as you learn more.

  1. Click the History button in the header to open the prompt history sidebar.
  2. Here you can see all the prompts you've used for this 360 View.
  3. To refine your results, enter a new, more specific prompt in the text box and click Update 360 View. All the modules on your dashboard will refresh with new information based on your updated prompt.
  4. You can also select a previous prompt from the history to revert the dashboard to an earlier state.

Customize and Share Your View

  • Configure Mode: To rearrange your dashboard, simply click and drag any module. A Configure Mode header will appear, allowing you to move and resize modules. Click Done to save your new layout.
