Getting the App

Download "State Affairs" from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Log in with your existing credentials to sync all your keywords, tracked bills, and preferences across devices.

Five-Tab Navigation

The app uses bottom navigation with five tabs that mirror the desktop experience:

News (Center) [0:33]
State Affairs news from Gongwer and state house outlets, organized by topic (budgetary issues, education, healthcare, etc.). Read full articles directly on your phone and filter by your subscribed states.

Hearings (Left of News) [1:19]
Fully recorded and transcribed committee hearings and floor sessions. Each hearing includes AI-generated keyword analysis at the top that summarizes what happened based on the issues you care about—your saved keywords determine what the analysis focuses on.

Bills (Far Left) [2:48]
Access all your tracked bills or browse all legislation across subscribed states. View bills from current or previous legislative sessions. Each bill page shows AI analysis, sponsors, actions, committee assignments—everything available on the desktop.

Directories (Second from Right) [3:45]
Look up any legislator in your subscribed states. View their recent news mentions, sponsored legislation (tap to view bills), vote history, committee assignments, office phone, and email. Also browse committees to see membership.

Keywords (Far Right) [4:39]
Search across all your saved keywords or add new ones. Results show bills, news, and hearings mentioning your keywords. Filter by state to narrow results (example shown: "pharmacy" in Michigan returned 4 news stories, 31 bills, 42 hearings).

Searchable Hearing Transcripts

When viewing a hearing [1:55], scroll down to the full transcript and search for specific terms. The app jumps directly to where that word appears in the transcript, letting you quickly find relevant testimony without listening to the entire hearing.

Synced Keyword Management

Keywords added on the app appear on the website, and vice versa [4:50]. Add new keywords directly from the app's Keywords tab, and they'll immediately sync to your account. Use the edit button to remove keywords you no longer need.

Notifications and Settings

Access settings from the top left menu [6:14] to control:

Email notifications for bill and keyword alerts
Primary state preference
Mobile push notifications (in addition to email alerts)
Turn specific alert types on or off

The notification icon (top right) [6:44] shows your recent alerts: keyword alerts, bill action alerts, and committee hearing alerts when your tracked words appear.

Quick Search

Use the search bar at the top of any screen [7:03] to instantly search across news, bills, and committee hearings for any keyword—no need to navigate to the Keywords tab first.

Multi-State Switching

If you subscribe to multiple states, easily switch between them [1:04] to filter content by state. National platform users can access all 50 states plus federal coverage.

Bill Pages on Mobile

Bill pages on mobile [3:08] include all desktop features:
