How does AI Chat work?

What This Does

AI Chat retrieves information from bills, hearings, news, and analysis to answer your legislative questions. It provides on-demand, nonpartisan policy intelligence based on real-time data.

When You’d Use This

  • Researching specific legislative topics across multiple states.
  • Comparing different bills and approaches to policy.
  • Creating formatted bill reports or 360 Views for your team.

How To Do It

  1. Open AI Chat from your navigation menu or sidebar.
  2. Type your question into the composer at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Type / to optionally select a specific skill, such as Create a 360 view, Create a report, or Compare Bills.
  4. Click the Send message button or press the Enter key.
  5. Click AI Chat History to view, rename, pin, or delete past conversations.

What Happens Next

The system searches legislative records and begins streaming a formatted response into the chat window. If you type and submit another message while the system is still responding, your message is queued and sent automatically when the current response finishes.

Pro Tips

  • Click the Stop response button if you want the system to halt its current search and start a new request.
  • Use the thumbs-up or thumbs-down buttons under a response to submit feedback on the quality of the answer.

Limitations

  • The system provides factual legislative tracking and does not offer legal advice or predict whether a bill will pass.
  • If you step away for more than 5 minutes, your active screen clears to a new chat, but your previous session is safely saved in your chat history.
